On September 21, 1969, during a neutral-site National Hockey League exhibition game between the St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins at the Civic Center in Ottawa, Ontario, Wayne Maki and Ted Green engaged in a nearly-fatal stick-swinging fight.

Maki struck Green in the head with his stick, fracturing his skull and sent skull chips into his brain. Green required hours worth of surgery to save his life.

The game was televised by WSBK in Boston, but they ordered that the tape be destroyed due to its gruesome nature for fear that it would be reproduced.
