Olive The Other Reindeer premiered on FOX on December 17th, 1999 for the Christmas season and reran on the network the following year. It also premiered on Nickelodeon in 2001 and would air annually on Cartoon Network from 2002 until 2014 and would air annually on ABC Family from 2013 and would air annually on Boomerang from 2013 until 2016 and would air annually on AMC from 2017. The special was released on VHS in 2000 and DVD in 2003.

The VHS release contains a few scenes that were omitted from the Fox broadcast (which was used for the basis for the DVD release and future broadcasts) for unknown reasons. The scenes were uploaded to YouTube on Jan 10, 2016, and a redone version with an additional clip was uploaded on December 9, 2018.

  • During the scene where Olive discusses about how reindeer might be able to fly, the syndicated version cuts to Martini claiming that it's years of practice (plus jet-packs). The VHS version includes the Inuit couple behind Olive and Martini giving out their theories about how reindeer can fly. The scene also includes the husband giving Olive backup options to help Santa in case she isn't able to help out with flying the sled.
  • While the DVD version crossfades to the following scene after Fido wonders how Olive is doing on her journey to the North Pole, the VHS version continues the scene with Fido deciding to turn the radio on to hear updates from the North Pole; It abruptly goes to message about "Grandma's Old Fashioned Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil" as Fido sighs weary.
  • While Fido flips through news channels on TV where Martini gives answers about Olive assisting Santa with his flight, he says that Olive's "... Our last, best hope".
