Mannix_(1967-75)_-_Season_1_Intro_&_Close

Mannix (1967-75) - Season 1 Intro & Close

The original intro and credits.

Contrary to what many people who saw Mike Connors' classic P.I. series Mannix in syndication may have thought, the show did not start off when Gail Fisher was introduced as Peggy Fair. The actual first season, as shown when it debuted on CBS in 1967, was a very different show, in that it that had Joe Mannix (Connors) working for an L.A. detective agency, Intertect. While they solved crimes using circa-1967 computers, Joe preferred to do so the old-fashioned way, a method over which he constantly argued with his boss, Lew Wickersham (Joseph Campanella). Mannix mostly drove a customized 1967 Oldsmobile Toronado, and in the opening credits, the title was spelled out on a punch card.

The show was being beaten in the ratings by NBC Saturday Night at the Movies, and as a result Desilu Productions decided to improve them by having Mannix leave Intertect and work on his own, assisted by secretary Peggy. For a long time, episodes from the 1967-68 season were almost never aired in syndication. However, in April 2008, CBS Home Entertainment released the entire season on DVD.
