In the US from August to October 2,000, Fox Kids (FOX Network) aired 9 episodes from the anime series 'Escaflowne' (or 'The Vision of Escaflowne'). This is the third that was aired.
The episodes were heavily edited. While only 9 "episodes" were aired before "FOXaflowne" was cut, Fox Kids actually showed footage from the first 11 episodes of the original series. Episodes were combined, scenes were switched around, and the original first episode was skipped entirely though scenes from it were used as flashback sequences in later "episodes." You can see in several instances where cheap editing effects were used. As for the music, in most cases Yokko Kanno's sweeping soundtrack was replaced with generic action flick music, or it was switched around or added where there was no background music to begin with. The techno-ish opening sequence was created by Fox Kids. Also, violence and blood were edited out, and I even noticed some sound effects were changed.
All the editing was done to make 'Escaflowne' appealing to young boys, which isn't the demographic the original is most popular amongst, but Fox Kids wanted to broadcast it alongside the likes of 'Digimon' and 'NASCAR Racers'.
Anyway I thought it would be a funny to show how 'Escaflowne' was first shown on US tv. If you really want to watch the series, get the DVDs from Bandai. They're cheap nowadays and far better than this.
